How to Use the eBay Shipping Calculator
Our eBay Shipping Calculator helps you work out the total shipping cost of an order before you list or dispatch your items. It is designed for both US and UK eBay sellers and can also help you compare individual shipping with combined shipping.
To use the calculator:
- Choose your eBay marketplace — Select United States (USD) or United Kingdom (GBP).
- Enter the number of items — Add the total number of items included in the shipment.
- Add package details — Enter the package weight and, if available, its length, width and height.
- Enter your postage quote — Add the shipping price quoted by your chosen carrier or postage service.
- Add packaging and handling costs — Include the cost of boxes, mailers, labels, packaging materials or handling where applicable.
- Add insurance or other shipping expenses — Include any additional shipping-related costs you expect to pay.
- Compare combined shipping — If you are sending multiple items, enter the estimated shipping cost per item if each item were shipped separately.
- Click Calculate Shipping.
The calculator will show your total shipping cost and average shipping cost per item. If you enter a separate shipping cost for multiple items, it can also estimate how much you may save by combining them into one shipment.
What Costs Are Included in the Calculator?
Shipping an eBay order can involve more than the postage label itself. This calculator lets you include several shipping-related expenses so you can get a clearer estimate of what fulfilment may actually cost.
Postage or Carrier Cost
This is the amount quoted by the carrier or postage service for sending your package.
Enter the actual shipping quote you receive rather than relying on a generic rate. Postage can vary depending on the package weight, dimensions, destination and delivery service.
Packaging Cost
Packaging costs can include boxes, padded envelopes, mailers, tape, protective material, labels and other supplies used to prepare the order.
A small packaging cost may not seem significant on one order, but it can become an important expense when you process a large number of eBay sales.
Handling Cost
Handling can be entered separately if you want to account for additional order-processing expenses associated with preparing a shipment.
If you do not charge or track a separate handling cost, simply leave this field at zero.
Insurance and Other Shipping Costs
Some shipments may involve additional costs such as shipping insurance or other carrier-related charges.
You can add these expenses to the calculator so they are included in your estimated total shipping cost.
Additional Shipping Charge
The additional shipping field can be used when there is another shipping-related amount that is not already included in postage, packaging, handling or insurance.
The calculator adds these amounts together to provide a single estimated shipping total.
eBay Shipping Calculator for US Sellers
US sellers can select United States (USD) in the calculator. Results will then be displayed in US dollars.
Enter the postage quote for the service you intend to use along with your packaging, handling and other applicable shipping expenses.
Shipping prices can vary significantly based on the origin and destination, package dimensions, weight and selected carrier service. For that reason, this calculator does not generate a made-up carrier rate from weight alone.
Instead, you enter the postage quote available to you and the calculator helps determine the broader cost of shipping the eBay order.
For more information about postage prices and shipping methods, see our eBay Shipping Costs Explained guide.
eBay Shipping Calculator for UK Sellers
UK sellers can select United Kingdom (GBP) to calculate their shipping costs in pounds sterling.
You can enter your postage quote together with packaging, handling, insurance and other applicable expenses to calculate the estimated total cost of dispatching the order.
Because UK postage rates vary according to factors such as parcel size, weight, destination and service, the calculator does not claim to provide a live Royal Mail, Evri, DPD or other carrier quote.
Use your current postage quote for the most useful result.
How Is the Total Shipping Cost Calculated?
The calculator uses a straightforward calculation:
Total Shipping Cost = Postage + Packaging + Handling + Insurance/Other Costs + Additional Shipping Charge
For example, suppose your costs are:
- Postage: $9.00
- Packaging: $1.50
- Handling: $1.00
- Other shipping costs: $0.50
Your estimated total shipping cost would be:
$9.00 + $1.50 + $1.00 + $0.50 = $12.00
If the package contains three items, the calculator would also show an average shipping cost of:
$12.00 ÷ 3 = $4.00 per item
This can be particularly useful when estimating your costs before deciding how much to charge for shipping.
Calculate Combined Shipping Savings
If the same buyer purchases several items, shipping them together may cost less than sending each item separately.
Our calculator includes a combined shipping comparison for this purpose.
For example, suppose you sell three items and shipping each one separately would cost $8:
3 × $8 = $24
If you can send all three together and your total shipping-related cost is $15, your estimated saving would be:
$24 − $15 = $9
That represents an estimated 37.5% saving compared with shipping the three items separately.
Combined shipping will not always be cheaper. A larger or heavier combined parcel can sometimes move into a more expensive carrier rate or parcel category.

Package Weight and Dimensions
Weight and dimensions are important when obtaining a postage quote.
Depending on the carrier and service, the shipping price may be affected by:
- Package weight
- Length, width and height
- Origin and destination
- Package or parcel type
- Delivery speed
- Tracking requirements
- Insurance or additional services
US sellers can record package measurements using the appropriate imperial units, while UK sellers can use the measurements required by their chosen postage provider.
Always check your actual package measurements before purchasing a shipping label. Incorrect weight or dimensions can result in an inaccurate postage charge.
Is This the Official eBay Shipping Calculator?
No. This is an independent calculator designed to help eBay sellers estimate and break down their shipping-related costs.
It is not operated, sponsored or endorsed by eBay, and it does not retrieve live eBay or carrier rates.
The tool is useful for combining the postage quote you already have with packaging, handling and other expenses to understand the estimated total cost of shipping an order.
For an actual shipping label or live postage quote, check the current options available through eBay or your chosen carrier.
Why Calculate Shipping Costs Before Listing on eBay?
Shipping can directly affect the profitability of an eBay sale.
A listing may appear profitable when you compare only the selling price with the product cost, but postage, packaging and other fulfilment expenses can reduce the amount you actually keep.
Calculating these costs before listing can help you decide whether to:
- Charge the buyer separately for shipping
- Include shipping in the item price
- Offer free shipping
- Adjust the selling price
- Combine multiple items into one shipment
- Choose a different shipping service
Once you know your shipping expense, you can use our eBay Fee Calculator to estimate selling fees and net payout, or our eBay ROI Calculator to check the overall profitability of the item.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate shipping costs for eBay?
Get a postage quote for your package and enter it into the calculator. Add packaging, handling, insurance and any other shipping-related expenses. The calculator will add these costs together and show your estimated total shipping cost.
Does this calculator provide live eBay shipping rates?
No. The calculator does not connect directly to eBay or carrier APIs and therefore does not provide live postage rates. Enter the current postage quote from your carrier or shipping service to calculate your overall shipping cost.
Can I use the calculator for eBay US?
Yes. Select United States (USD) and the calculator will display your results in US dollars.
Can I use the calculator for eBay UK?
Yes. Select United Kingdom (GBP) and the results will be displayed in pounds sterling.
Does the calculator include packaging costs?
Yes. Packaging has its own field, allowing you to include boxes, envelopes, mailers and other packing materials in your shipping-cost calculation.
Can I include handling costs?
Yes. Enter your handling expense in the handling field. If you do not want to include a handling cost, leave the value at zero.
Can I calculate shipping for multiple eBay items?
Yes. Enter the number of items included in the shipment. The calculator will calculate the estimated average shipping cost per item.
Can the calculator estimate combined shipping savings?
Yes. For multiple items, enter what shipping would cost per item if the products were sent separately. The calculator will compare that amount with your combined shipping cost and estimate the difference.
Is combined shipping always cheaper?
No. Combining items can reduce shipping costs, but it depends on the size and weight of the resulting package and the carrier's pricing. A heavier or larger parcel may cost more than expected.
Should I offer free shipping on eBay?
That depends on your product price, shipping expense, competition and expected profit. Free shipping does not mean shipping has no cost—the seller still needs to account for the postage and fulfilment expense when setting the item's selling price.
