Whether you’re waiting for a package to arrive or a seller making sure your item gets there, eBay tracking works the same way for both sides — but finding the right place to look, and knowing what to do when tracking isn’t updating, isn’t always obvious.
This guide covers how to track an eBay order as a buyer, how to find and upload tracking as a seller, what each tracking status means, what to do when things go wrong, and how tracking connects to eBay’s buyer and seller protections.
eBay Tracking — Quick Answer
To track an eBay order, go to My eBay → Purchase History and select your order. If the seller used a tracked shipping service and uploaded the tracking number, you can see the carrier and available delivery updates. If no tracking is available, eBay will still show the estimated delivery date.
How to Track Your eBay Order
Method 1 — Through My eBay
- Log into eBay
- Go to My eBay → Purchase History
- Find the order and click View order details
- Under the shipping section, you’ll see the tracking number and a link to track the package
Method 2 — Through the eBay App
- Open the eBay app
- Tap My eBay → Buying
- Select the relevant order
- Tap Track package
The app usually shows a tracking timeline directly — without needing to visit the carrier’s website separately.
Method 3 — From Your Order Confirmation Email
When a seller marks your item as dispatched, eBay typically sends shipping information to your registered email address. This may include the tracking number and details about the carrier. Email experience can vary depending on the transaction and account settings.

What if there’s no tracking information?
Not all eBay sellers ship with tracking — particularly for lower-value items or standard letter post. If your order has no tracking:
- Check your order details for the estimated delivery date
- Wait until the estimated delivery window passes before raising a concern
- If the item hasn’t arrived by the estimated delivery date, check the order details and use eBay’s available option to report that the item hasn’t arrived

How to Find Your eBay Tracking Number
As a buyer
Your tracking number is in three places:
- My eBay → Purchase History → View order details → Shipping section
- Your order confirmation or shipping email from eBay
- The eBay app under your order details
As a seller
Your tracking number for each order is in:
- Seller Hub → Orders → find the order → Shipping details
- The tracking you uploaded when you marked the item as dispatched
If you didn’t upload tracking at dispatch, there’s no tracking number associated with the order.
Track Your eBay Package — By Carrier
eBay tracking links to the relevant carrier automatically in most cases. But if you have a tracking number and want to check directly on the carrier’s website:
UK Carriers
| Carrier | Track Your Parcel |
|---|---|
| Royal Mail | Track your parcel |
| Evri | Track your parcel |
| DPD | Track your parcel |
| DHL | Track your parcel |
| Parcelforce | Track your parcel |
US Carriers
| Carrier | Track Your Parcel |
|---|---|
| USPS | Track your parcel |
| UPS | Track your parcel |
| FedEx | Track your parcel |
For most eBay orders, clicking the tracking link in My eBay or the eBay app takes you directly to the carrier’s tracking page — no need to visit the carrier site separately.
eBay Tracking Status — What Each One Means
Tracking statuses vary slightly by carrier, but these are the most common you’ll see
In Transit / On the Way
The item has been collected by the carrier or scanned at a depot and is moving toward the delivery address. No action needed.
Out for Delivery
The item is with the delivery driver and scheduled for delivery today. Someone may need to be available to receive it, depending on the item size and carrier.
Delivered
The carrier has recorded delivery at the address. If the buyer hasn’t received it, they should check with neighbours, in a safe place, or with the carrier directly.
Delivery Attempted / Failed Delivery
The carrier tried to deliver but nobody was available, or the item couldn’t fit. Check the carrier’s tracking page for redelivery options or a collection card.
Label Created / Pre-Shipment
The seller has created a shipping label but the carrier hasn’t scanned the item yet. This is normal in the first 24-48 hours after dispatch. If it stays in this status for several days, the item may not have been handed to the carrier yet.
Tracking Not Updating
A tracking number can temporarily stop updating while a parcel is moving between carrier facilities. Gaps between scans can occur, particularly with international or economy shipping services. Check the carrier’s latest status and eBay’s estimated delivery date before deciding what to do next.
eBay Tracking Not Updating — What to Do
A tracking number can temporarily stop updating while a parcel is moving between carrier facilities. Gaps between scans can occur, particularly with international or economy shipping services. Check the carrier’s latest status and eBay’s estimated delivery date before deciding what to do next.
Check the Estimated Delivery Date
Start with the estimated delivery date shown in your eBay order details. Delivery times vary by carrier, service and destination, so the estimated delivery date is more useful than applying one fixed waiting period to every order. If that date has passed and the tracking still hasn’t progressed, contact the seller and check the carrier’s tracking page.
What to check first
- Has the estimated delivery date passed? eBay bases concern timelines on the delivery estimate
- Has the item been through customs? International shipments regularly pause at customs
- Did the seller dispatch on time? Check the dispatch date in your order details
When to contact the seller
If the estimated delivery date has passed and tracking hasn’t updated, message the seller through eBay Messages. Most sellers can contact the carrier or submit an enquiry on your behalf.
When to report an item hasn’t arrived
If the estimated delivery date has passed and you’ve had no response or resolution from the seller, use eBay’s available option to report the item hasn’t arrived.
eBay Tracking Says Delivered But Item Not Received
This is one of the most frustrating tracking situations — the carrier has marked it delivered, but the buyer says nothing arrived.
Check these first
- Safe place or neighbour: Many carriers leave items with a neighbour or in a designated safe place — check the tracking for a note about where it was left
- Letterbox delivery: Smaller items may have been posted through the letterbox
- Correct address: Confirm the delivery address on the order is correct
- Building reception: For flats or commercial addresses, check with reception or a concierge
For buyers — next steps
If tracking shows the item as delivered but you can’t find it, first check the delivery details, safe places, neighbours or building reception where relevant. Contact the seller through eBay if the package is still missing. The outcome of an Item Not Received request depends on the order details, tracking evidence and eBay Money Back Guarantee requirements.
For sellers — what tracking evidence means
Valid tracking showing successful delivery can be important evidence if an Item Not Received request is opened. Sellers should make sure the tracking information uploaded to eBay is accurate and matches the order.
How Sellers Add Tracking to eBay Orders
At the point of dispatch
When you mark an order as dispatched in Seller Hub, eBay prompts you to enter the carrier name and tracking number. This is the standard method.
Go to Seller Hub → Orders → the relevant order → Add tracking
How to Add Tracking After Dispatch
Once you’ve sent the item, go to your Orders, locate the order, choose More actions, select Add tracking number, enter the tracking details and carrier, and submit.

Why uploading tracking matters
Uploading valid tracking gives both the buyer and seller visibility into the shipment and can provide important evidence if an Item Not Received request is opened. Using an eBay-integrated carrier and uploading tracking within your handling time can also help qualify the transaction for applicable seller protections.
Tracking and delivery information can also be relevant when eBay reviews transaction-related payment holds. See our eBay Funds on Hold Guide for the full explanation.
eBay-integrated shipping labels
Some sellers generate shipping labels directly through eBay’s shipping label tool in Seller Hub. When you do this, tracking is added to the order automatically — no manual entry needed.
eBay Tracking and Seller Performance
How you handle tracking directly affects your seller metrics and standing on eBay.
Late dispatch affects your metrics
If you mark an order as dispatched later than your stated handling time, that counts against your late shipment rate — regardless of whether the item arrives on time. eBay measures dispatch date against your stated handling time, not actual delivery.
Why Valid Tracking Matters for Sellers
Valid tracking gives buyers shipment visibility and can help sellers in Item Not Received requests when the tracking meets eBay’s applicable requirements. Always upload the correct tracking number and select the correct carrier.
Shipping problems and account health
Shipping problems can create buyer complaints and service issues, so sellers should monitor dispatch times, tracking accuracy and unresolved delivery problems. For a full explanation of the metrics eBay uses to evaluate sellers, see our eBay Seller Performance Guide
eBay Tracking for International Orders
International shipments add complexity to tracking — multiple carriers hand the package over at national borders, and each carrier’s system may or may not show updates from the previous leg.
How international tracking works on eBay
When a UK seller ships to a US buyer, for example, the UK carrier handles dispatch and shows the first tracking updates. The item then enters the destination country’s postal system. Tracking may show gaps between the two systems updating — this is normal.
eBay International Shipping — 2026 Update
2026 update: eBay says eBay International Shipping is replacing the Global Shipping Programme for eligible UK sellers, with the transition being introduced in phases.
Under eBay International Shipping, eligible UK sellers send the sold item to eBay’s domestic shipping hub. The seller should add tracking for the journey to the hub; once the item reaches the hub, international tracking is added and eBay manages the international shipping process.
eBay Global Shipping Programme (GSP)
The Global Shipping Programme is eBay’s previous international shipping solution, which is being phased out in favour of eBay International Shipping. For sellers still using GSP, eBay handles the international leg of the journey and disputes about international delivery are handled by eBay, not the individual seller.
UK vs US — eBay Tracking Differences
| Feature | UK | US |
|---|---|---|
| Common carriers | Royal Mail, Evri, DPD, DHL | USPS, UPS, FedEx |
| Tracking on eBay | Available when valid tracking is uploaded | Available when valid tracking is uploaded |
| International shipping | GSP transitioning to eBay International Shipping | eBay International Shipping where eligible |
| Delivery estimate | Depends on service and destination | Depends on service and destination |
Not every Royal Mail service provides the same level of end-to-end tracking. Sellers should check the specific service they purchase and choose an appropriate tracked service when delivery confirmation is important.
